Service Description

About the workshop: This workshop is designed to develop insight into how to manage stress and be effective when helping highly traumatised people. Supporting this client group can have a serious impact on well- being and capacity to cope. We intersperse a PowerPoint presentation with opportunities for discussion and sharing experience of helping refugees. We will cover: Taking care of yourself - we need to take care of ourselves in order to support others. We consider the ways in which you can support your own wellbeing. Increasing awareness - become more aware of how you are feeling both in and outside the workplace. Exploring how to notice when caring for others is having a detrimental impact on you. Setting boundaries - how to stay open to empathy and remain passionate about the work whilst also being able to accept personal and organisational limitations. Exploring our own vulnerable areas - explore which situations / people are more likely to impact us, to get ‘under our skin’. Find strategies to cope. Building resilience - building resilience in others starts with knowing how to build our own; we offer practical strategies and psychological insight. Increasing relaxation and support - explore how relaxation and building a support system can help us cope. Identifying our own unique ways of caring for our own wellbeing.
